Pair a Bluetooth controlling device to any tablet or phone and it becomes a courtside scoreboard, with an easy-to-see score and server indicator. Score from the remote, or tap the screen directly when that's easier — set up singles or doubles and run the whole match without leaving the court. Significantly cheaper, less distracting and fewer mistakes than touchscreen WearOS / Smartwatch solutions, but you can use those too if you have them!

What it does

The screen stays on the sideline.

CourtScorer separates the scoreboard from the scorer, but doesn't lock you into one way to update it:

Any screen becomes the board

Mount a tablet or prop up a phone. CourtScorer turns whatever's on the sideline into a clean, readable scoreboard. No need for an expensive dedicated panel.

Bluetooth remote control

Pair one of a variety of Bluetooth controllers and update the score from within the game, including an undo action.

Configurable match setup

Choose singles or doubles, game point, and win-by margin before the first serve. CourtScorer handles the server rotation from there.

Scores you can hear, not just see

Turn on "Speak Scores" and CourtScorer calls out the count after every point — through the tablet's own speaker, or through whatever's paired to it. If your Bluetooth remote is a pair of earphones or a portable speaker, the score gets spoken right through that.

Pair your Bluetooth controller with the tablet or phone that's acting as the scoreboard. Takes a few seconds, once.

SET UP

Configure the match

Alter the configuration if needed, including selecting singles or doubles, game point, and who serves first. CourtScorer handles server rotation and side from there.

PLAY

Click, or tap, to score

Update the score from the remote while the board stays mounted courtside - log each rally won with volume / track buttons, or easily undo a mistake by pressing the play/pause button.

Remote hardware

Physical buttons are easier to use mid-game.

Any Bluetooth device with real, clicky media buttons works well with CourtScorer — it just needs to send a standard button press, the same way a volume key does. Sweaty hands and only a quick glance at the screen don't mix well with touch controls, so hardware you can press blind is ideal. If it's a pair of earphones or a speaker, it can also play the spoken score back to you.

Use Your Voice To Update the Score

Turn on "Update by Voice" and CourtScorer lets you send rally updates by voice. Use the key phrases "Win Us" or "Win Them" to reflect whether the scorer's team won the rally, or "Undo" for undoing the last action.
PLEASE NOTE: Just as we prefer physcial buttons to touch screens, we also think that using your voice is less reliable and is not our recommended way to use the app. However, it can be a useful option in certain situations - just check to make sure that the scoreboard has updated as you expected.

What's next

Future Development

CourtScorer is primarily intended to be an in-game remotely-controlled scoreboard for pickleball. Because of this and the way pickleball is usually played we have focussed on this functionality, but over time we intend to add the following features in a way that does not intrude on the main interface:

  • An iOS version for Apple products
  • Game counter across games [In Testing - Releasing Soon]
  • Further testing and suggestions for suitable remote devices
  • Using spoken keywords to change the score, not just physical touches
  • Save settings across app restarts
